Mandy Lucas, project ope-rational assistant, Bethesda, explained that all the entered teams have informed her that they have started practicing and are "ready to take on any teams they have to play against."
Some of the teams have already entered; their categories are: Association for Persons with Disabilities (APD) George (netball and tug-of-war); George Child and Family Welfare (netball and soccer); Sports Academy George (soccer and tug-of-war); Bethesda (tug-of-war and soccer); Life Community Services (two teams for tug-of-war, two for netball and one soccer team); Afrikaanse Christelike Vrouevereniging (ACVV) (tug-of-war); and Ithemba Lobomi (netball, soccer and tug-of-war).
"All the arrangements and preparations are on track and we are getting more and more excited about the upcoming event," said an animated Lucas. Judging by the phone calls and e-mails Bethesda has received in the past two weeks regarding the NGO Games it is clear that this event is definitely an event to keep on the calendar and it can only become more successful with every year.
A few NGOs who are unable to participate this year conveyed their messages of good wishes and blessings to Bethesda for a successful day.
"We would like to say thank you to everyone who is involved and/or participating in this wonderful day, without the interest and enthusiasm of the NGOs and community of George this day would not be possible! All that is left now is to count the days down till the fun and games begin," concluded Lucas.
Volunteers from Sports Academy George came to enter their teams for the NGO Games on Thursday 22 August at Bethesda. From left: James Russell, Ryan Smith, Mandy Lucas (Bethesda), Oliver Corsie and Danny Ross.
