GEORGE NEWS - Jonga High first opened with only a Grade 8 class five years ago. This class has just matriculated with a 73,9% pass rate, exceeding all expectations.
The top achiever was Analo Mfuku (72%), second was Lona Booi (60% to 70%) and in third place was Sandi Sawule (60% to 70%).
Subjects that Jonga High's matrics had a great pass rate in are, consumer studies (100%), English second language (100% with one distinction), geography (81,6%), history (89% with one distinction), Xhosa first language (100%), life orientation (100%) and mathematics literacy (80% to 90%).
The principal, Tos Louw, was ecstatic. He said not only was the school new, the teachers who taught last year's matrics also didn't have previous experience. "Fresh young teachers led and taught the first Grade 12 group at the school," he said.
"It was a new beginning for everyone, while our school had to complete with the other established high schools in George. Everyone was working with the same goal."

A Grade 11 learner, Dingelihle Mlotha, was just as happy with the results her seniors have achieved.
She congratulated the matriculants and wished them all the best for their life after school.
