NATIONAL NEWS - CapeNature has launched a group component for its Cubs Club. This new addition allows groups of children to sign up for the Cubs Club, expanding the reach, and offering exciting opportunities for organisations, schools and other groups to engage children in environmental education and conservation action.
Sign-up is free and available to groups with members aged 4 to 13.
According to CapeNature CEO Dr Razeena Omar, the CapeNature Cubs Club, previously only available for individual sign-ups, has been highly successful in fostering a love for nature among young conservation enthusiasts.
"By including groups, we can reach more children and expand on the positive environmental actions being implemented by Cubs Club members across the Western Cape.
“The programme aims to educate young minds about the importance of biodiversity conservation, to spread the word about the importance of conservation, but most importantly, to change their behaviour in a way that safeguards our natural spaces for the future. We look forward to building on to this very successful programme,” said Omar.
Group membership offers a range of benefits and opportunities. All community groups, schools and environmental organisations, among others, can take up the offer of group membership.
Groups are limited to 60 children per group. Each group will need to assign a group leader who will sign up as the group and will receive a group starter pack and welcome gift.
Children who are signed up as part of a group will still receive the same benefits as those that are individually signed up. This includes a free welcome gift and 20% discount on accommodation for their birthday.
Members will also receive a quarterly newsletter, which is jam-packed with information and action projects to complete.
Action projects earn members points, which come with benefits such as amazing prizes awarded to the top scorers each quarter as well as an invitation to the annual Green Defenders Camp.
Children signed up as part of a group may compete in both individual and group competitions. The latest newsletter, which centres around fire and the impact that it has on biodiversity, includes both individual and group activities that earn members points and a theme-specific button badge.
