ELECTION NEWS - While we in South Africa celebrated Freedom Day on Saturday 27 April South Africans living abroad were casting their ballots at South African embassies and consulates in the countries they live in.
Ex-Georgian Keenan Carelse voted in London on Freedom Day. He praised the IEC for their efficiency and said it was a privilege to be able to vote.
"Democracy is an amazing thing. We all can choose a specific political party which we feel best represent the values of a South Africa we envision. So today my vote went to.... The FIGHTERS who fight for ONE SOUTH AFRICA that we can achieve by GROWING SOUTH AFRICA TOGETHER. Make your vote count, go vote in numbers on 8 May!"
All overseas ballots are placed in sealed diplomatic bags which will be transported back to the national office of the IEC in South Africa. These returned overseas ballots will be opened by election officials, counted and added to the national ballot count for each party taking part in the national election in South Africa on 8 May.
