After locating two years ago, the National Heritage Project also approached him to do some work. Francois has had huge success with his Madiba bust both in bronze and resin, and his wildlife pieces. His work is recognised for its attention to detail capturing the natural movement and spirit of each subject.
Francois exhibits art at major art galleries and has had success with Christies of London. Many of his sculptures have been purchased by local and international collectors. On the Garden Route he did a giant aloe in metal and fibreglass at Albertinia.
It was while he was working as a game ranger in the famous Etosha National Park (and in Namibia) that his devotion to wildlife turned into a talent as a wildlife sculptor. His son Dayne de Wet, who is the manager of the Garden Route Botanical Garden, remarked this week, "Doing bronze work is a painstaking craft for which I hold tremendous respect, not many people have the patience and more importantly the talent to undertake such work and I am therefore very proud of my father's sterling work."
