GEORGE NEWS - The Abbi Geldenhuys Academy of Ballet from George has captured the limelight at the 42nd Nelson Mandela Bay Dance Festival, leaving audiences and the acclaimed adjudicator awe-inspired by their outstanding performances.
As the festival concluded, the academy's achievements resonated as a tribute to dedication, talent, and artistic expression.
For over four decades, dancers from all corners of the nation have converged on the picturesque Nelson Mandela Bay for an annual dance celebration. Evolving from the Port Elizabeth Dance Festival, the event now embodies unity and cultural diversity, mirroring the essence of the region.
With a group of 14 dancers, the George-based ensemble achieved a remarkable feat, securing 19 gold and 5 silver scores across solo and group performances.
These accolades not only attest to the academy's commitment to excellence, but also highlight the vibrancy and creativity of George's wider dance community.

One triumph shines exceptionally bright – a flawless 100 percent score for their modern group dance titled "Requiem." This historic achievement breaks a five-year full marks drought at the festival, securing the George contingent the honor of the best modern group.
During the gala evening, three of the academy's performances were showcased. Dancer Amelie Raubenheimer's remarkable dedication and artistry earned her the esteemed Best Junior Dancer Award, accompanied by a development bursary.
Abbi Geldenhuys, speaking to George Herald about their experience, shared, "I'm immensely proud of our dancers' achievements at the Festival. Competing in the Eastern Cape against diverse schools and dancers has enriched us and driven us to excel further. Having our performances judged by an internationally acclaimed instructor has been invaluable for growth.
