GEORGE NEWS - The 2021 school year could not have ended on a better note for principal Mncedisi Ntentile and sports coordinator Mgcini Sam of Tyholorha Primary School in Thembalethu, George.
It is the first school in the SWD Rugby Football Union region to become a part of the Tag Rugby Association's Adopt a School Programme.
"I could not think of a more deserving school to have been selected by the Tag Rugby Association to be the first school in our union to be a part of this nationwide tag rugby programme," commented Veda Manie, general manager of the SWD Rugby Football Union.
Michelle Loots will be opening a Tag Rugby Association office in George with the view of getting young primary school boys and girls from all communities involved in programmes from January 2022. Loots will also be initiating social tag rugby leagues for adults in the region.
The director of the Tag Rugby Association, Stuart McConnell, said they are extremely proud to be opening an office and creating a footprint for tag rugby in this region. "We have been working closely with Martin de Vos and the Union since 2009 and look forward to building on this solid foundation."
He said Tag Rugby is also extremely proud to be extending its working relationship with Eta College and giving their George-based students opportunities to get coaching and event management opportunities.
"Tag Rugby has been working with the Eta College head office in Cape Town for some time with phenomenal success," he said.
"We would also like to thank Action iT for adopting our first school in the SWD Union. Action iT has also adopted a school in Polokwane. This is phenomenal as they are getting involved in communities, in the municipalities, that they have working relationships with. This is highly commendable and we would like to encourage companies in George to follow suit," said McConnell.
