Known internally as the JL and expected to make its world debut at the Los Angles International Auto Show later this month, the images very much confirms the series of renderings posted by online forum jlwranglerforums.com, and sees the Wrangler featuring new headlights, LED daytime running light mounted on the wheel arch flanks, redesigned front bumper and updated seven-slot grille.
Down the side, the JL gets new door handles and fender vents and while no images of the rear have been released, expect the lights to receive a new X-motif LED setup.
Pictured in both two-door and four-door Unlimited configurations, the former in top spec Rubicon guise and the latter in mid-range Sahara, the JL will again have the option of having the doors, roof and front window removed, with both soft and hard-tops being offered.
While FCA has so far declined to provide technical details, leaked documents submitted to the US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) indicates that the Wrangler will come powered by a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine codenamed Hurricane, and a 213 kW version of the long-serving 3.6-litre Pentastar V6.
A 3.0-litre turbodiesel V6 also powering the Jeep Grand Cherokee and Ram 1500 will become available in due course, while no word about the previously spotted Scrambler pick-up has yet been made. Expect transmissions to consist out of a six-speed manual or a eight-speed automatic.
Production of the JL will commence at FCA's North Toledo, Ohio Plant after its official reveal.
