According to Australia’s motoring.com.au, AMG President, Tobias Moers, firmly denounced the idea of a full-bore AMG X-class becoming available at some stage, telling the publication that, “There will be no X-class AMG. Never. We’re too busy. We’re fully locked in to our program”.
He however stated that the main challenge facing an AMG X-class is the inherent culture clash that could arise from the pick-up’s donor partners, the Nissan Navara and the Renault Alaskan, remarking that, “AMG culture would be a difficult fit with Nissan and Renault cultures”.
Earlier this year, X-class Engineering Head, Frank Schumacher, stated that more power is always an option, but that its reality would depend on customer demand.
“There is always more [power to be extracted], but that’s if the requirements come from a marketing point of view and if customers want more power – [it’s no different] with other platforms, we react to customers’ wishes. If there will be wishes after the launch of the vehicle that says we need to have V8 then probably we will put in a V8, but that’s always a response on customer request,” he said at the time.
