Dubbed Freestyle, a name last used in 2007 on a station wagon version of the North American Taurus, the Figo based model mirrors the new Fiesta Active and essentially receives a number of exterior add-ons made up of a black honeycomb grille, black cladding around the wheel arches and bumpers, black mirrors, a satin silver front skidplate, new alloy wheels and silver roof rails. Ford's SYNC 3 infotainment system meanwhile completes the changes.
For the Indian market, the Freestyle will come powered by a 1.2-litre version of the EcoSport's 1.5-litre three-cylinder Dragon petrol engine developing 70 kW and 120 Nm of torque, as well as the familiar 1.5-litre TDCI outputting 74 kW and 215 Nm. Only a five-speed manual gearbox will be offered.
In South America, where the Figo is sold as the Ka, the Freestyle will likely offer a 1.0-litre petrol making 59 kW and 100 Nm of torque, or a 1.5-litre mill with 77 kW and 143 Nm. In addition to the aforementioned manual 'box, a six-speed Powershift dual-clutch could also be added on the higher spec model.
Sales of the Freestyle in India is expected to commence in April or May, while its remains to be seen whether Ford South Africa would bring it to market. If given the green light, expect it to rival the likes of the Renault Sandero Stepway and Toyota Etios Cross with power coming from either the diesel or 82 kW / 136 Nm 1.5-litre petrol.
