As well as losing its top, the Spyder is expected to get an updated version of the existing 1.5-litre petrol / electric drivetrain, rumoured to punch out 10% more power than the current model's 266 kW combined system output. In addition, the i8 will also receive a bigger battery for improved range.
New interior trim and driver assistance systems, as well as standard kit, will complete the transformation. More details are likely to emerge over the coming weeks leading up to Frankfurt.
