GEORGE NEWS - The identity and cause of death of the person whose skeletal remains were recently found in an open field near the George showgrounds remain undetermined.
According to the latest information from the Southern Cape Police’s spokesperson, Lieutenant Colonel Malcolm Pojie, an autopsy was conducted on 31 August.
However, due to the advanced state of decomposition of the remains, the pathologist was unable to determine the possible cause of death. The identity could not be established, either.
The George Police opened an inquest docket after the remains were discovered in an open field next to the showgrounds, near the R102, at about 16:45 on Saturday 29 August.
The body had on black and blue denim clothing and a pair of brown shoes.
The police are appealing to anyone who may have information that could assist with identifying the deceased or tracing their next of kin to come forward. Contact Crime Stop on 08600 10111.
