GEORGE NEWS - Runners, cyclists and boatsmen from the Military Academy set off from George and Wilderness for the next stage of the annual TransEnduro on Tuesday morning, 4 December.
The students handed over a token of appreciation to George Speaker Gerrit Pretorius to thank the city for its hospitality and a letter of goodwill from the Bitou Municipality, the team's previous stop.
The TransEnduro is a military tradition dating back to the 1980s in which students from the South African Military run, cycle and sail from Port Elizabeth to the Military Academy in Saldanha. This year the event started in Qunu in the Eastern Cape, the birthday place of Madiba in honour of the Nelson Mandela 100 celebrations.
The event is supported by student-based logistics and administration teams and is complemented by a strong community outreach programme and fundraising efforts in the towns they visit.
The ground team were making street collections Tuesday morning and visited Kekkel en Kraai creche and Rosemoor Primary School to hand over goods and motivate learners.
