GEORGE NEWS - Education at Life Christian Academy in Conville got a boost last Friday, 28 January, when Grade 1 learners received equipment that will help them in the learning process.
The donation was part of the launch of the iSchoolAfrica iPad Learning Programme with iSchoolAfrica and iStore Garden Route Mall taking part in the programme.
The event was attended by the Olympian silver medallist women surfer Bianca Buitendag, who has been involved with LCS for more than eight years. Life Christian Academy, a primary school, is an initiative of Life Community Services.
Buitendag thanked everyone for their contribution, saying that it furthers a mission to give life, respect, dignity and respect to the children. "Partnering with a credible company such as iStore and iStoreAfrica just gives one step in advance."
She said running an NGO is not easy and the good things must be celebrated when they come. With this project a whole world of opportunity is going to open for the children. "The kids are the lucky ones. They get quality education with people who care for them dearly." She said they are looking forward for the children to use the technology.
iSchoolAfrica general manager Judy Ngwenya said the organisation is based in Johannesburg but works throughout the country, partnering with organisations such as LCA.
According to her the organisation focuses on providing technology solutions for education. They don't see themselves working "in silos". "We work much hand in hand with the people on the ground doing the work."
Headmaster Chrisna du Preez said the children were the guests of honour. "The children are why we are here. We are teachers because of them. I want to thank the Lord for the blessing to be a teacher."
She has been with the school for five years and said the biggest dream for the school is to introduce technology to learners, as it plays a very big role in education. Technology broadens the academic experience of each child.
She thanked everybody for attending and for the role they play in the school, singling out Buitendag as the person who was mainly responsible for acquiring the technology.
