GEORGE NEWS - On National Women's Day, a group of energetic youths did their bit for Mother Earth by cleaning up an illegal dumpsite in Rosedale, collecting over 400 bags of recyclable waste.
The clean-up on the Rosedale main road was co-ordinated by the Garden Route Waste Forum, an offshoot of the Garden Route Dam Action Group (Gardag).
It was one of several Women's Day clean-ups throughout Rosedale initiated by councillors Melvin Roelfse and Charlotte Clarke.
The Rosedale residents were joined by the founder of Henque Waste, Charlotte Lamprecht, and an all-women team from Henque. "Every piece of waste collected is a step closer to a cleaner Garden Route," said Lamprecht.
Christine Ridge-Schnaufer of Wessa also lent a hand in helping to "convert trash into treasure" and Pauline Lourens of Gardag donated several wheelbarrow loads of plants for the community gardens.
"We thank all our women waste warrior champions for sacrificing a day on which they were supposed to be spoilt and pampered to serve the community instead," said Roelfse.
