GEORGE NEWS - Fears that many flights at George Airport might be impacted by the announcement that flights relying on instrument approaches, particularly during poor weather, would be suspended, have so far not been realised.
"Since the suspension of the flight procedures, the Air Traffic and Navigation Services (ATNS) has not yet received any reports and or aware of flights which may have been suspended, diverted or cancelled," said Mphilo Dlamini, head of corporate affairs and communications at the ATNS, on Tuesday 30 July.
"We also don't envisage any flight suspensions, delays or cancellations due to this issue."
He said efforts are underway to complete the maintenance of the suspended procedures as quickly as possible.
"The complex maintenance work on the ground is on course and ATNS will provide periodic update on progress made. We are continuously engaging with all our stakeholders involved and those affected by the maintenance of instrument flight procedures, and we are continuously keeping them updated with the progress, and the mitigations in place to minimise any disruptions and impact to industry."
