GEORGE NEWS - A new primary school located in the heart of the community held its official opening ceremony at the end of March.
Life Christian Academy is an independent school that forms part of Life Community Services, a local non-governmental organisation working with orphaned and vulnerable children across the city.
Located on Nelson Mandela Boulevard, the school focuses on educating pupils in a Christian environment.
It follows the Department of Education curriculum with an additional focus on environmental studies.
Since starting with 16 Grade 1 learners in 2017, the school's enrollment list has more than quadrupled. Currently, there are 68 learners split across Grades 1 and 2.
Speakers at the ceremony included the principal, Chrisna du Preez, Pastor Vusi Selani, Lizette Crause of the Department of Education, and Maryna de Vries, CEO of Life Community Services.

De Vries says Life Christian Academy was born out of a growing need for education in George.
"In 2010, we built our preschool, Happy Feet, and within a year it was filled to capacity. Parents expressed a desire for their children to be educated in a similar environment as they moved on to primary school.
"We believe in educating children in a Christian environment, as this is what will ultimately create a lasting legacy for future generations."
