GEORGE NEWS - Despite the search for the missing Capetonian Robert Schroder (58) being called off, his family have not given up hope in finding him.
Schroder has been missing for nearly two weeks after he attended the Louvain Burn Music and Arts Festival in the Langkloof near Herold.
The three-day festival started on Friday 9 August. He is 1,7m tall and weighs 80kg and has a full beard.
On Monday after the festival, once all the people who attended had gone home, only his tent was still up.
His sister, Caryn Tamari, flew in from Israel and her brothers, Paul and Selwyn Schroder, came from Australia when they lost touch with their brother over the weekend, and after his tent and possessions (including his old Nokia phone, wallet, medication and glasses) were found at the site.
He was last seen at the festival on the morning of Sunday 11 August, but after that, the trail ran cold. An international team, Magnus International Search & Rescue, was also brought out to assist in the search.
"Both the police and the team from Magnus are satisfied that Robert is not on Louvain," said Tamari. She said the teams covered the area thoroughly, but it seems they may never know what happened to her brother.
"Drones are still scheduled to search, the divers will be returning, and the dog handler has also promised to come back because you just never know. We're now shifting focus and leaving the farm to meet with our detective to discuss the next steps.
"We have nothing but respect and admiration for the police, the rescue teams, the divers, the volunteers - the beautiful people of the Western Cape. Morné Jonker and his team at Louvain Guest Farm have been absolutely amazing and have become our family," she said.
She also extended a special thanks to the Herold and George police officers who were involved. "We couldn't have done this without Sergeant Jantjies (Herold) and Colonel Meiring (George)."
Anyone who might have any information of Schroder's whereabouts is asked to contact the investigating officer, Sergeant Fumanekile Nofemela, at the George Detectives office on 044 803 4715, alternatively, Crime Stop on 08600 10111.
