GEORGE NEWS - With the deadline for input on the Basic Education Laws Amendment (Bela) Bill being today, 4 April, a group of protesters made a last effort and took to the streets with placards showing their utter dismay in the matter. 'Leave our children alone', reads a message to the national government on one of the posters carried by a protester.
Local humanitarian non-profit organisation God Cares International organised the march in York Street last Wednesday, 27 March.
A group of 18 protesters from different denominations gathered at the corner of York and Union Streets, armed with placards, Biblical verses and prayers. Among them were Pieter and Melanie Terblanche from the new political party #Hope4SA, who came all the way from Mossel Bay to join the march.

The protesters completed the walk in rainy weather to deliver a memorandum to the Department of Education in the York Park building, near the post office."We strongly oppose the Bela Bill," said Debbie Pijoos, founder of God Cares. "We want them to listen to us."
Today, Thursday 4 April, is the last day to submit written input on the Bela Bill to the Standing Committee on Education. Send an e-mail to Wasiema Hassen-Moosa, Procedural Officer, (wasiema.hassenmoosa@wcpp.gov.za) or a voice note or messages on WhatsApp (060 250 6165).
