GEORGE NEWS - Hoekwil Primary had enough fun last weekend to last them another hundred years!
The school went all-out for its centenary celebration last Saturday, 29 October, with a colour run, inflatable playground, food stalls, a market, live entertainment and loads of old-fashioned fun things to do.
The children enjoyed riding in a push cart while their parents tried their best to impress the judges in the potjiekos competition.
"It was a lovely day full of fun - nice and sunny. All the food was sold out by the end of the day and no parking was available!" said Michele Beukes, a Grade 3 teacher at the school. Teachers and parents all helped to capture wonderful moments on camera, one of which the school principal, Flippie Grobbelaar, singled out: "The beautiful clouds in the photo symbolise the spirit of the day."

Member of the student governing body Judy Olivier used the words of Winnie the Pooh to describe her feelings and thoughts on the celebrations last weekend: "Today there is sunshine in my soul..."
"What a magnificent day!" said Olivier. "To see how a community comes together, to celebrate such a special occasion, was exactly the aim of the centenary event. We feel blessed and grateful to each and every person who was there on Saturday... whether it was to work, to assist in any way, to support or just to have fun! The day would not have been the same without you!"
