GARDEN ROUTE NEWS - At the general meeting of U3A on Wednesday 30 October, Dr Charles Helm will deliver a lecture titled 'Early fossil tracks along the Garden Route coast'.
Recent discoveries of the fossilised tracks of animals and humans in this region have indicated that we live in a particularly rich area for the study of early life on our planet.
The lecture will focus on highlights of the Pleistocene fossil tracks that have been discovered between Arniston and Robberg, which are between 90 000 and 135 000 years old.
Helm is a palaeontological researcher, author, explorer, designer of hiking trails and family physician. He grew up in Cape Town and Great Brak River and moved to Canada in 1986. He has made numerous fossil discoveries and led the creation of the Tumbler Ridge Unesco Global Geopark in 2014.
Tea is at 10:00 and the lecture starts at 10:30. Entrance is the usual R5 for members and R10 for visitors. The venue is Emmaüs in Memorium Street.
