GARDEN ROUTE NEWS - Garden Route District police confiscated 763 litres of liquor during high density operations. The focus was on unlicensed liquor outlets in George, Knysna and Mossel Bay.
The operation started on Tuesday 24 December, when George Crime Prevention Unit members, armed with a search warrant, pounced on a premises at Wilderness Heights. The members seized 162 litres of liquor and arrested a 58-year-old man on a charge of selling liquor without a licence.
Later the same day Knysna police members embarked on similar operations in Smutsville, Sedgefield, where 105 litres of liquor of various brands were seized. A 43-year-old man was subsequently arrested. He is facing a charge of selling liquor without a licence.
On 25 December, Christmas Day, the Deputy National Commissioner: Crime Detection, Lieutenant General Shadrack Sibiya led various police units and other law enforcement agencies with festive season operations in the Garden Route District.
The high-density operations yielded excellent results with the arrests of 150 suspects for various offences.
A total of 19 suspects were arrested for drug related offences, seven for drunken driving, seven for possession of dangerous weapons, three undocumented persons and others for minor offences. Small quantities of drugs, several sharp objects and ammunition were confiscated.

The forces also seized 181 litres of liquor at an unlicensed premises at Mandela Village in Thembalethu, George, and 315 litres at Kwanonqaba. Two suspects aged 30 and 42 were arrested on a charge of selling liquor without a licence.
All those arrested will appear in the respective courts once charged.
