Update
GEORGE NEWS - Two years after Avuye Thyuthuza (15) was murdered, the court case is still dragging on.
Two suspects have been cross-examined and gave their testimonies in court. A third suspect was supposed to stand in the dock on 6 February, but the case was postponed as his lawyer could not be in court.
The delays cause frustration to all parties involved, more especially the family of the deceased who want to see justice.
Avuye, a Grade 9 learner at PW Botha College (now Eden Technical High School), was killed not far from his home on Easter Sunday, 1 April 2018. It is alleged that a group of boys, who call themselves Milanos, were responsible for his death.
Five youths were arrested in connection with the murder and were denied bail. Since then the case has seen more delays with the accused changing their lawyers more than once.
In February 2019 the five suspects all pleaded not guilty to the killing of Avuye. The court heard that Avuye was stabbed 15 times, with one of the blows fracturing his skull and others delivered to his hands, legs and chest.
The case is expected to resume in May or June.
