GEORGE NEWS - The Thembalethu Regional Court on Wednesday 19 June heard the medical report that described the manner in which Avuye Thyuthuza (15) was killed.
The court heard that Avuye was stabbed 15 times with one of the blows fracturing his skull and others delivered to his hands, legs and chest.
The court heard that the suspects showed no mercy and that, judging by the wounds Avuye sustained, their intention was to kill him. Five suspects were arrested in connection with the murder - Mveliso Nomsotha, Thabang Thebeneng, Sibusiso Mini, Luphumlo Bhonyo and Lisakhanya Mhambi. All five pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The suspects who allegedly belong to a group called the Milanos, are said to have stabbed and killed Avuye not far from his home in Thembalethu on Easter Sunday, 1 April 2018. At the time of his death, Avuye was a Grade 9 learner at PW Botha College.
According to one of his friends who was with him on the night and witnessed the incident, Avuye's murder was driven by jealousy of his fashionable clothes.
On 26 February an eyewitnesses, Goodman Mvubu (20), testified about the manner in which Avuye was killed. He said as Avuye was walking about five metres ahead of them [Avuye's friends], they were approached by the Milanos, all of whom took out knives and started stabbing Avuye. "He then fell and all of them surrounded him and stabbed him many times," said Mvubu.
He testified that he tried to save Avuye from the Milanos by using a plank to disperse them and they eventually pulled him out. "They eventually ran away and we picked him up and an ambulance was called." Avuye succumbed to his wounds at the George Hospital just hours after he was admitted.
The case was postponed to Wednesday 17 July.
