GARDEN ROUTE | KAROO NEWS - A total of 323 suspects were arrested in the Southern Cape between Friday 4 February and Sunday morning, 6 February.
Members of the crime prevention unit took to the streets in Pacaltsdorp and arrested six suspects for the possession of Mandrax and small quantities of tik.
Two other suspects were arrested for the possession of dangerous weapons, which included an okapi knife similar to the one that claimed the life of a young man about a week ago in New Dawn Park.
These suspects, aged between 19 and 54, are scheduled to appear in the George Magistrate’s Court later today, Monday 7 February.
This weekend’s operations included high visibility blue light patrols in crime-stricken areas, roadblocks, stop and search operations with a special focus on drug and liquor outlets, illegal firearms, the tracing of wanted suspects and the confiscation of dangerous weapons.
At a roadblock on the N2 near the Tsitsikamma tollgate, members of the Eden Cluster flying squad pulled over a taxi that was en route from the Eastern Cape to Kwanokuthula in Plettenberg Bay.
A search of the vehicle resulted in a find of more than 8,5kg of dagga worth approximately R25 000. The dagga was found in 19 plastic shopping bags.
The driver (42) and another person (56) were arrested on suspicion of dealing in drugs, alternatively for possession thereof.
The okapi knife and Mandrax tablets confiscated from suspects in Pacaltsdorp.
