GEORGE NEWS - At the general meeting of U3A on Wednesday 27 March, Professor Raymond Auerbach will deliver a lecture entitled, "Feeding the world without destroying it: Organic farming, climate change and your health."
As carbon is polluting the atmosphere and creating a greenhouse, and toxins and stress are driving the levels of cancer and non-communicable disease higher, we can ask whether the life expectancy in the developed world is decreasing.
Auerbach is an internationally renowned authority in the field of organic farming. A retiree, he was Associate Professor of Soil Sciences and Plant production at the NMU in George for 45 years. The research of his agro-ecology has compared long-term organic farming systems in Uganda, Zambia, Tanzania and South Africa.
This promises to be a very topical and interesting lecture not be missed. The venue is Emmaüs in Memorium Street in George.
Tea will be served at 10:00 and the lecture starts at 10:30. All visitors are welcome at the usual fee of R5 for members and R10 for visitors.
Entry for NMU students is free if they produce their student registration card.
