GEORGE NEWS - An internal investigation is underway at the George Traffic Department after four municipal traffic officers allegedly received meat from a local towing service.
The alleged incident stems from the overturning of a meat transportation truck in the Outeniqua Pass on Saturday 17 June.
The pass was closed for traffic for some time while the scene was cleared. No other vehicles were involved and no injuries were reported.
It is alleged that meat that came from the truck was loaded into one of the towing services' vehicles and taken to their premises in George from where the traffic officers collected it from them using their official vehicle.
According to the municipal traffic manager, Janine Wells, they are aware of the allegations and view them in a serious light. "The matter is currently being investigated," she said.
According to a source with insight into the incident, video footage was obtained that shows the meat being loaded in the official vehicle. George Herald has not had access to this footage.
