GEORGE NEWS - Beachgoers can expect regular bag checks on the beaches this coming festive season.
Any type of liquor is strictly prohibited on all beach areas under the control of the George Municipality, including Herold's Bay, Gwaiing River Mouth beach and day camp, Victoria Bay, Wilderness and Leentjiesklip.
George law enforcement officers will be assisted by 30 beach monitors during the holidays to assist with beach patrols and bag checks.
All beach monitors will be identifiable by reflector jackets or reflector bands and identification cards.
George Municipality encourages all beachgoers to assist the officials in ensuring that their day at the beach is a safe and pleasant experience.
Neighbourhood watches, community police forums, George traffic services, provincial traffic services and the police also work closely with the municipality regarding community safety.
If Law Enforcement confiscates liquor from beachgoers, a notice of confiscation will be issued to the offender. All confiscated items or goods are handed over to the police, for disposal at their discretion.
