GEORGE NEWS - A man’s lifeless body was found in the Touw River in Wilderness in the early hours of this morning, Friday 4 September.
According to National Sea Rescue Institute (NSRI) spokesperson Craig Lambinon, their Wilderness duty crew was activated at 02:56 after police requested assistance at the river.
NSRI rescue swimmers and police divers from the Water Policing and Diving Service (WPDS) responded, together with George Fire and Rescue Service, Western Cape Government Health EMS and police.
On arrival, emergency services found the man lifeless in the water.
Police divers, assisted by NSRI rescue swimmers, recovered the man to the shoreline, where paramedics declared him deceased.
The unidentified man’s body was handed over to police and pathology services.
Police have opened an inquest docket.
