GEORGE NEWS - Hope Church George had its 10-year anniversary celebrations in September.
Pastors Paul and Marinette van Coller and their two sons, Nathan and Seth, relocated from Zambia to George 10 years ago.
They started Hope Church in Zambia in 2008 and moved to George in 2012 to expand the Hope Church family into South Africa. To find out more about the work Hope Church does in Zambia, visit www.thezambiaproject.org
The Van Collers started Hope Church in Zambia in 2008 with just five people in attendance. It has now grown to over 10 000 people in attendance across all Sunday gatherings.
Pastor Paul, who holds a masters degree in theology, has been in full-time ministry as a pastor for 28 years. His wife, Pastor Marinette, has a background in marketing, has completed various courses in theology and church leadership and has served as a pastor for 22 years alongside him.
The couple give God all the glory for what He has done through them and through the incredible team of people God surrounded them with.
They want to encourage us all that we often overestimate what can be done in a year, but we underestimate what can be done in 10 years. To quote Craig Chroeshel: "Successful people do consistently what others do occasionally!"
A big announcement at the 10-year celebrations was the upcoming launch of Hope Church America, which will be pastored by Matt and Savannah Mackie, a couple who are currently working at Hope Church in Zambia.
“We relocated to George from Bloemfontein in 2014. We heard many people in George speak highly about Hope Church and we often drove past the building. We visited Hope Church for the first time in 2017 on Christmas Day. We immediately knew Hope Church is where we belong! Since our family started volunteering on Sundays, we feel even more like part of the Hope Church family. We also love meeting so many new people every Sunday!”- Lizelle, Sidney, Matthew and Hayley Fourie

Hope Church George's Champions Club that started in 2020 for children with special needs is another highlight and a blessing for many families. About 400 young people currently attend Hope Youth on Friday nights under the leadership of Pastor Deon Plaatjies. Hope Church also recently started services for their seniors at 09:30 on the last Wednesday of every month. Anyone in the community 60 years and older is welcome.
