Young Killers FC edge out Tigers FC to strengthen lead

SOCCER NEWS - Young Killers FC produced a determined performance to defeat Tigers FC 2-1 in a Geolfa Super League lower division clash at Thembalethu Stadium on Saturday.

The victory marked another important step in the Young Killers' bid to secure promotion back to the Geolfa Promotional League after their recent relegation.

The league leaders showed attacking intent from the outset, although Tigers goalkeeper Mpho Ntsele made an early save to deny the hosts.

Despite the Young Killers' bright start, the Tigers struck first through Akhile Hanase to take a 1-0 lead.

The home side responded positively and were rewarded with a penalty after a handball inside the box. Anqobile Zweni converted from the spot to level the score at 1-1 before half-time.

The Young Killers dominated much of the second half, applying sustained pressure on the Tigers' defence.

Their persistence paid off when Zolile Mzinyelwa unleashed a superb long-range strike from a set piece to put his side 2-1 ahead.

The Tigers' hopes of rescuing a point faded when they were reduced to 10 men after a late red card.

The result sees Young Killers extend their lead at the top of the standings with 26 points from 12 matches, while Tigers slip to third place on 23 points.
