GEORGE NEWS - The driver arrested following Sunday 1 November’s fatal Outeniqua Pass collision, which claimed the lives of two Waboomskraal women, currently faces two counts of culpable homicide.
Blaine Vosloo (30) appeared in the George Magistrate’s Court this morning, Tuesday 3 November.
The case was postponed until Thursday 5 November to allow the investigating officer to complete the bail profile.
The court heard that the charges currently fall under Schedule 1 and that the information required for Vosloo’s bail application was not yet complete.
However, the application may not be heard on Thursday owing to a full court roll, as six other bail applications take priority. This application will only be heard if time allows.
Vosloo remains in custody.
The charges stem from a collision between a double-cab Isuzu bakkie and a Chrysler Crossfire near the Blanco turn-off at about 11:40 on Sunday 1 November.
Marie van Zyl (72) sustained multiple injuries and was transported to hospital, where she was later declared dead.
Leona Ronetta Jacobsohn (68), who was travelling in the bakkie with Van Zyl, sustained critical injuries and died in hospital on Monday afternoon, 2 November.
Southern Cape Police spokesperson Warrant Officer Chris Spies previously confirmed that the driver of the Chrysler was arrested on the scene on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol.
The circumstances surrounding the collision remain under investigation.
