GEORGE NEWS - A second woman has died following a collision between a double-cab Isuzu bakkie and a Chrysler Crossfire in the Outeniqua Pass, near the Blanco turn-off, on Sunday 1 November.
Leona Ronetta Jacobsohn (68), who was critically injured in the collision, died in hospital on Monday afternoon, 2 November.
She was travelling in the bakkie with Marie van Zyl (72), who also died following the collision. Both women lived in Waboomskraal.
In a heartfelt tribute from Jacobsohn’s granddaughter, Zanita Valentin, Jacobsohn’s family expressed their shock and heartbreak at her sudden death.
“We are still deeply shocked and heartbroken by her sudden passing. It all feels so unreal.
Never did we imagine that we would have to face a life without her, or that we would not get the opportunity to say our final goodbye.”
The family said the love and memories they shared would remain with them forever.
Southern Cape Police spokesperson Warrant Officer Chris Spies previously confirmed that the police had responded to the collision at about 11:40 on Sunday.
Van Zyl sustained multiple injuries and was transported to a nearby hospital, where she was later declared dead.
The police arrested the Chrysler’s driver on the scene on a charge of drunken driving. This 30-year-old suspect remains in custody and is expected to make his first appearance in the George Magistrate’s Court today, Tuesday 3 November.
The circumstances surrounding the collision are under investigation.
