GEORGE NEWS - Some Georgians who make use of the services of the SA Post Office were disgruntled at not being able to access local branches because of the nationwide strike.
Nicky Daines complained that she could not collect a parcel that was at the main branch in York Street.
On Tuesday, when the George Herald made enquiries, only the post office in the industrial area answered the phone, where a staff member said they could not take in any parcels since there was no transport. "We are open and we assist the public with other services where we can. I am not allowed to give comment, though."
The area manager, Dean Stevens, was on his post and responded to a message left for him, referring the newspaper to the communications department.
Post office CEO Mark Barnes reacted to our enquiry, expressing the hope that the deadlock between the unions and the post office will be resolved soon, as they were "beginning to move closer to one another".
"All services will then return to normal and customers will be able to collect their parcels.
"The post office understands the inconvenience that the situation is causing and we apologise, but be assured that we are working hard at normalising the situation," he said.
