GEORGE NEWS - For surf enthusiast and local businessman Gavin Wilson, Monday 15 August will certainly go down in his history books as one to remember.
Wilson can definitely be referred to as the man of the moment after he not only came across one breaking news story, but two within hours of each other.
On Monday morning at about 10:00, Wilson nearly witnessed a hijacking in Gloucester Avenue when five armed suspects allegedly accosted a man and drove off with his car. Wilson arrived on the scene minutes after the incident and, after hearing what had happened, he made a video.
He posted the video on the local Facebook page, Georgiete Staan Saam, and every Tom, Dick and Harry was alerted of the incident and kept an eye out for the stolen car. The video quickly made its way to various WhatsApp groups and at about midnight on Monday police found the stolen vehicle in town.

Later that afternoon Wilson was on his home from work when he noticed smoke bellowing from the Elvis Brew Padstal.
Once he stopped and got out of his vehicle he gathered three staff members from the nursery next door and together they managed to get the fire under control by dousing it with hosepipes before the George fire brigade arrived and took over.
During this incident Wilson also made a quick video which spread like wildfire on social media and gained the interest of many.
"Ironically I went to lunch with my mom that day and she gave me a bookmark with a scripture from Ecclesiastes 9:10 which said the following: 'Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with all your might.'
I looked at it and thought, what a cool scripture! Little did I know what my hands would find to do that day. I was elated that the place [Elvis Brew] didn't burn down and that a business wasn't lost and I felt on top of the world when I heard the car had been found," Wilson said.
