GEORGE NEWS - A vehicle that was stolen at gunpoint in broad daylight in Gloucester Avenue in the George CBD on Monday morning, 15 August, was found by police later that night. It had been abandoned near Usave (Shoprite) in Hibernia Street.
The victim, a visitor to George, was allegedly accosted by five armed suspects while he was loading luggage into his car at a guesthouse at about 10:00 that morning.
According to Southern Cape police spokesperson Capt Malcolm Pojie, police officers found the vehicle, a silver Toyota Corolla, at about midnight on Monday.
Pojie said the victim was loading his luggage into his vehicle when he heard a firearm being drawn.
"When he turned around he saw five suspicious men, speaking an African language, standing around him. One of the suspects took his bag and the other his car keys. All the suspects got into the car and drove away," said Pojie.
No arrests have been made and police ask anyone with information to please contact Sgt Rivaro Balie of the George vehicle theft unit on 044 803 4794 or 082 446 5497. All information will be dealt with confidentially.
