GEORGE NEWS - The Oakhurst Insurance EdenXperience 2018, the family festival hosted by Glenwood House School, will take place on 7 and 8 September.
The annual fundraiser is set to attract more than 10 000 people, with its wide range of fun-filled events to keep the entire family involved.
The festival flagship event, the George Herald Run with the Stars, is a race held in high regard by many running enthusiasts. It boasts a scenic route through Loerie Park and Eden neighbourhoods, starting and concluding at Glenwood House School.
If the 10km race is not quite your style, don't miss the 3km "Space Race" run/walk, with loads of prizes to be won for those who dress according to the theme.
Trail runners can look forward to the Sportsman's Warehouse Trail Run, offering both 18km and 9km routes through picturesque private farmlands and forests.
There will also be a shorter 5km trail run for the less experienced trail runners. Be sure to enter as early as possible at www.edenxperience.co.za or at Sportsman's Warehouse.
When you enter you will automatically be entered into the Pentravel Holiday Competition. This lucky draw gives you the chance to win a seven-night Phuket holiday for two adults and one child. It includes flights from Johannesburg, four-star accommodation, airport taxes, return transfers and daily breakfasts.
Food stalls will be open on Friday night as well as Saturday morning. There will also be live entertainment showcasing local talent. For the young and young at heart, there will be a Kids' Fun Park throughout the festival.
There will also be a Toddler Dash to ensure even the smallest attendees get their share of competitive fun.
The Xtreme Waterpolo tournament will run on both Friday and Saturday at the Glenwood House School Aquatics Centre. The tournament will host U15 teams from all over the Garden Route.
Glenwood House School will also host a hockey festival over the weekend with over 600 preparatory school participants. The tournament draws competitors from all over the Western, Eastern and Southern Cape.
This year sees the addition of a local tourism expo on the Saturday afternoon. The expo aims to share some of the wonders that the Garden Route has to offer.
Lacy Mentz, chair of the Glenwood House School Parents' Association says: "Glenwood House School is extremely appreciative of the relationship we have with our two main sponsors, Oakhurst Insurance and the George Herald, and the overwhelming support they provide us to make this event possible. In recognition of their major roles in the success of our event a portion of all proceeds is handed over to Oakhurst Insurance and the George Herald in support of their many charity events."
The festival also supports Glenwood House School's efforts of carbon footprint reduction, by reducing, reusing and recycling waste wherever possible. For more information about the festival and to register for the events, go to www.edenxperience.co.za or email edenxperience@gmail.com.
