GEORGE NEWS - The seventh annual Africa Day Festival hosted by the George Rastafari community and supported by George Municipality, will be held at the Malgas River Lapa in the Witfontein Nature Reserve from today, Friday, 26 May, to Sunday 28 May.
Africa Day is a public holiday in various African countries. It commemorates the founding of the African Union on 25 May 1963.
Food and clothing stalls, children's entertainment and live music from morning till night will be on the programme.
Music artists from across the Southern Cape and further afield will also be entertaining festivalgoers.
Celebrate
According to one of the organisers, Hein Scheepers, the festival celebrates the vibrancy and resilience of Africa as the populations of Africa continue to work for peace and progress.
"The festival highlights the role of the cultural and creative economy as an essential element to the achievement of Africa we want," he said.
"The festival invites the broader public to come and celebrate Africa and its future prospects as a continent. It is a family-friendly festival with entertainment and activities for all."

Last year the festival was opened by a Nyabinghi (drumming and chanting) session by elders from across the Southern Cape.
