GEORGE NEWS - The Nelson Mandela University campus remains accessible only via the Seven Passes road from Wilderness. Madiba Drive remains closed to traffic while the section of the road that was completely washed away during last year's floods, is being reconstructed.
"Staff and students as well as visitors are kindly reminded not to make use of Madiba Drive as it remains closed," said communications manager Milisa Piko.
"It is a high-risk road that is extremely volatile. Campus management has been in consultation with the district municipality as well as the provincial roads department to closely monitor work on Madiba Drive and the current access road through Wilderness.
"Work to reconstruct Madiba Drive began on Monday 17 January and is scheduled for completion in March."

The provincial roads department has committed to assisting the campus in continuing to monitor and clear any debris and fallen vegetation on the Wilderness route, to ensure clear visibility.
Signs and alerts will be placed on the route should the need arise.
"Campus Protection Services continue to further assist by travelling the route on a regular basis and ensuring that the municipality is alerted of any dangers on the route," said Piko.
