GEORGE ELECTION NEWS - Early morning voters turned out in their numbers at voting stations around George. At the George Civic Centre, the first voters arrived shortly after 06:00.
According to election officials everything was going well. Representatives of political parties told the George Herald that it was very busy early on, but later voter numbers decreased. They said the weather would probably play a role.
Phillip and Alisia Nortjé voted just before 09:00.
They had voted in the last election and this time they supported a different party.
James and Jill Robb also voted at the Civic Centre. Both voted for the same party as in the previous election.
They were accompanied by their two children, Katherine (2) and Elizabeth (6).
Dr Dennis Farrell, chairperson of the George Business Chamber, was also up early to vote at the Gateway Lodge polling station. "It is important to vote so that the correct message can be sent for economic growth."
He added, "Irrespective who the new government is that is elected, the voters have a responsibility to make sure that the promises of the politicians are kept and implemented."
As a Christian, he believes people have a responsibility to pray for all the leaders.
