GEORGE BUSINESS NEWS - Recycling in George is reaching new heights. Under the capable management of founder and owner Lorenze Gelderblom, LG E-Waste took up the contract to handle the blue and green bags of recyclable waste for the municipality in March this year.
The staff complement has since February increased from 10 to 40.
In addition, two subcontractors have been appointed, one of which employs 10 people. The collection has more than doubled - from about 60 tons of blue bags per month to more than 120 tons - and LG E-Waste aims to increase this to more than 300 tons per month.
Gelderblom has been passionate about recycling since childhood. He started to collect recyclable material at the age of seven and now has more than 25 years of experience in recycling. He says people must be much more aware of the importance of recycling.
It was while he was involved in the security industry that he realised there is a great need for recycling in George.
In 2015 he started Outeniqua Waste and ran it on the side while keeping his full-time job in the security industry. However, the company kept expanding and he went into the recycling business full-time, renaming the company LG E-Waste.
LG E-Waste has expanded its services and now collects electronic waste too. It also offers a free service of collecting boxes and recyclables from businesses and shops on a daily or weekly basis.
For more information, or to arrange for free collection at businesses or shops, contact branch manager Andrew Willemse on 044 630 0279 or e-mail: andrew@lgewaste.co.za.
