ENTERTAINMENT NEWS - Five years ago, on 29 October 2018, a blazing inferno incinerated the small town of Karatara. It is doubtful that anyone in the Garden Route can think of that time without experiencing deep emotion.
Many residents lost everything, some even their lives.
Tomorrow evening, 20 October, George Arts Theatre will be hosting the multi-awarded dance-drama “Karatara”.
This deeply personal production deals with the loss of family, home, community and land. It examines the complex racial and social history between the communities of the area, and explores the power of politics and the media. We see a family struggling to make sense of an atrocity amidst the opportunism and greed others find in a tragedy.

It was written by Shaun Oelf and Grant van Ster, and is directed by Gideon Lombard, who also did the set and lighting design.
It debuted at KKNK 2022 with a sold-out run and won the award for Best Debut Production at the festival. It went on to win the Kyknet Fiestas 2023 and the Fleur du Cap Awards 2023 awards for best sound and theatre design.
This show is not to be missed. Visit Computicket to book your ticket for the 15:00 or 19:00 show at the George Arts Theatre tomorrow.
There will also be a free community performance in the Karatara hall at 19:00 on Saturday 21 October.
