GEORGE NEWS - A brave 12-year-old boy from Witfontein Nature Reserve outside George made waves amongst the mountain bike riders and spectators at the third leg of the National Downhill Mountain Bike Championships.
Yulbremmer Jah-Mill Keffers (12 ), who lives at Witfontein with his mother, Elizabeth Keffers, a nature conservation official, won a special gold medal during the race. He did this with a brand-new bike that was sponsored by the Hillbillies Club from George.
For the past six years Yulbremmer has been exploring the Witfontein area with a second-hand bike without brakes, without a helmet or any special or protective clothing.
"He has fallen so many times that he actually owns a fair piece of the land," Ms Collette van Deventer, conservation manager, told the George Herald.
She and the staff are totally amazed at this little boy's brave spirit and determination to become a mountain bike champion.
"Not even dislocated shoulders and elbows could keep Yulbrummer from ramping every hump and rock he could find," she added.
Spectators were completely surprised to see the young boy coming down the course and ramping in style and putting even some of the experienced riders to shame.
Grasshopper sponsored his entry fee and T-shirt as well as a surprise goody bag.
