Will Moody from the George United Football Club (GUFC) is extremely excited about the 2010 Soccer World Cup and is hoping that the GUFC’s World Cup enthusiasm will rub off. With the aid of the Eden District Municipality they are taking a 2010 World Cup Road Show to all the schools in George. Glenwood House and Holy Cross were the first schools to see the show and were treated to amazing presentations of images and facts from previous Soccer World Cup Events. In the presentation it was revealed that 260 million people watched the 2006 World Cup Final live - 100 times more viewers than those that watched the Rugby World Cup Final. An astounding 374 television channels will be dedicated to 2010 coverage around the globe.
After the presentation the scholars were given the chance to hone their own soccer skills and learn some tricks under the expert eye of a GUFC coach. The road show ends on a high note with the GUFC team playing a ’friendly’ against the host school’s soccer team.
Will says the road show raises the level of awareness within the school going population and increases the excitement in 2010’s biggest world wide event.
"The 2010 World Cup is a unique once in a lifetime experience that children in South Africa are having the privilege to experience this year. It is hoped that all schools will join in the fun of the worlds biggest game and help bring a positive vibe to make 2010 the best World Cup ever."
