GEORGE NEWS - Grade 11 history learners of York High enjoyed a hands-on learning experience during an educational excursion to Mossel Bay on Wednesday 29 July, when they explored the town's rich historical and cultural heritage.
The excursion began at the Dias Museum, from where well-known local historian Hendrik de Klerk, a former teacher of York High, guided the group on a walking tour through the historic town centre.
Learners visited a number of significant sites, including historic buildings and the old harbour, while also hearing local legends and ghost stories that have become part of Mossel Bay's colourful history.
The outing concluded at the Point, where learners took part in a series of interactive activities designed to reinforce their historical knowledge.
Working in teams, they interpreted historical sources, solved challenges and completed various educational tasks.
The day ended with a well-earned soft-serve ice cream, rounding off an excursion that combined learning with fun and a deeper appreciation of one of South Africa's oldest towns. - Compiled by Michelle Pienaar
