FOOTBALL NEWS - Simunye FC sank the struggling FC Rebels from Knysna with a humiliating score of 7-4 in a regional league fixture at the Lawaaikamp Stadium on Saturday 1 February.
The star of the game was 16-year old Yongana Koeberg, who scored four great goals for the winning team.
In first place on the log table with 30 points, Simunye has the regional league title firmly in its sights, while FC Rebels are down at the bottom of the log with seven points.
FC Rebels started the encounter on high note with Caylen Hennies scoring the opening goal. Simunye quickly retaliated with two goals by Yongama Koeberg, then extended its lead to 3-1 with a goal by Sindile Magubane.
A lull followed during which Simunye players Berry Winter missed the goal in a set piece and a penalty kick by the young Koeberg was denied by FC Rebels goalkeeper Angelo Manuel. The first half ended 3-1 with Simunye in the lead.
FC Rebels were chasing the game in the second half and Caylen Hennies scored their second goal, making it 3-2. Both teams were using their wings to attack, leading to a fourth goal by Barry Winter for Simunye.
Rebels had their hands full trying to beat off Simunye's attacks but were outsmarted when Shaun Botile netted the fifth goal for Simunye. Koeberg was doing good work on the flanks and scored his third goal to make it 6-2 for Simunye.
Willen Terblanche of FC Rebels' hard work from the centre of the field paid off when he scored the third goal for his side, making it 6-3.
Koeberg came back on the attack and sent a powerful shot into the goal, scoring his fourth goal for Simunye to reach a score of 7-3.
FC Rebels were further weakened when two players were sent off with red cards, but Caylen Hennies still managed to score his third goal to make the final score 7-4, with Simunye collecting maximum points at home.
