SCHOOL NEWS - The learners of Carpe Diem School are taught valuable life and practical skills by their dedicated educators through the school's Ukuwela skills training and employment programme.
'Ukuwela' is an isiXhosa word that means 'to cross over', and it aims to equip learners for life after school and enable access to employment where possible. This is done through work exposure and skills training.
Sixteen learners recently participated in the basic knife skills and table attendant short course presented by Chef Lianda Colquhoun of NQtac Hospitality.
The course ended on a highlight. The learners had divided into two teams, Team Chef and Team Table Service, to prepare and serve food for the special guests.
The outcome was a feast, and testifies that young people with disabilities have the ability, positive attitude and the willingness to learn.
