As per previous reports, the new wider and longer version of Volkswagen's endearing B-segment hatch will share the same MQB A0 platform as the Seat Ibiza, and feature an extensive range of new driver assistance systems and updated levels of standard equipment.
Motive power will also mirror that of the Seat with petrol engines expected to consist of a 1.0 TSI in various states of the tune, the same 1.5 TSI Evo used in the Golf and on the diesel front, a 1.6 TDI again in different outputs. The GTI meanwhile will forego the current 1.8 TSI unit for the same 2.0 TSI that previously did service in the Golf 6 GTI.
A crossover / SUV model, reportedly inspired by the T-Cross Breeze concept shown at the Geneva Motor Show last year, is also expected to debut at some stage, although nothing has yet been announced.
