According to reports, the US auto giant stated that the first ever hybrid version of its iconic pony car, which will "offer V8 power with more low-end torque", will likely became available in 2020 and limited to North America only, with the F150 hybrid arriving at the same time with sales commencing in its homemarket and the Middle East initially.

A plug-in hybrid version of the Transit Custom will meanwhile go on sale in Europe by 2019 with the Blue Oval also confirming it will build a dedicated all-electric SUV at its Flat Rock, Michigan for the North American, European and Asian markets, although no further details were mentioned.

The Flat Rock plant, which currently produces the Mustang and recently revived Lincoln Continental, has also benefitted from a $700-million (R9.6-billion) investment for the production of high-volume autonomous and electric vehicles, with versions of the former expected to arrive by 2021.
