Unlike the prototype pictured for the first time last month, the newest series of depictions by motor1.com sees the internally designated W206 undergoing winter weather testing in Finland, decked-out in heavy layers of black-and-white wrapping, as well as boasting a fair amount of pre-production body panels and taillight pods.
Reported to be based on the automaker’s MRA2 platform that underpins the current E-class, the W206 will, in-line with previous generations, take styling hints from the W223 S-class, while the interior is set to undergo the biggest transformation with the inclusion of the MBUX infotainment system, digital instrument cluster and updated range of safety and driver assistance systems.
Together with its new platform, which will reportedly see the C-class growing in length and width, the range of engines could include more widespread use of the EQ Boost mild-hybrid drivetrains in addition to the regular petrol and diesel choices, with a plug-in hybrid also due. AMG version will of course become available at a later stage.
Being only the second spotting of the W206, expect sightings to become more frequent next year leading up to its world debut.
